The BYU Harold B. Lee Library Multimedia Production Unit created a video to encourage students to study at the library. The video “Study like a scholar, scholar” is a parody of the well-known Old Spice commercial.

The amazing thing is that the video has gone viral and to date has received over 2 million views on YouTube.

The Mormon Channel’s series Everything Creative recently broadcast a program that explains how the Church creates media to spread and teach the Gospel.

David Nielson, the Managing Director of the Church Audiovisual Department, talks about the various media initiatives the Church uses to convey the messages of the Gospel. He explains the steps and processes that such initiatives go through. He also talks about the many challenges his department faces on a daily basis and the talents of the many that come together as one team to create compelling media.

The LDS Church’s Mormon Messages channel was just named the “Best Use of YouTube” at the 2009 Utah Social Media Awards.

The Utah Social Media Awards recognize excellence in social media practitioners and practices throughout the state of Utah.

The judges said this was a great use of a very accessible media medium for an organization with a growing global audience. They praised the channel’s more than 24,000 subscribers and 1.5 million channel views as a great example of sharing inspirational video content in a social media environment.

A video with highlights from the October 2009 LDS General Conference was just posted at generalconference.lds.org.  This 16:16 minute video is available in English only. At the top of the English page for the October 2009 conference, you’ll see the links to a Windows Media video and a QuickTime video.

There is also a conference music page associated with each conference (notice the link to it from the top of each conference page) that contains downloadable files of the music from the sessions of general conference in various formats.

The 179th Semiannual General Conference of the Church will be held in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City on Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4, 2009. The First Presidency has invited everyone to participate by attending, viewing, or listening via television, radio, satellite, or Internet transmission.

On the Internet, you can access

• Live audio broadcasts in English at the Mormon Channel (radio.lds.org).
• Live audio and video broadcasts at generalconference.lds.org in many languages. Watch video streams using the Church’s new video player in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and American Sign Language or watch video using Windows Media Player or listen to audio streams in 74 languages.

For more worldwide viewing options, see the general conference broadcast schedule.

Between sessions, watch live video broadcasts of The World Report of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a special broadcast about the new Latter-day Saint Edition of the Holy Bible in Spanish.

After the broadcasts, audio files will be available within one day and video files will be available in about two weeks.
