Youth.lds.org is featuring new videos with inspiring stories about LDS youth. Meet a young woman from Texas who is a world champion at horse reining, and then get to know two young women from Missouri who wanted to change the world and did something about it.

The Mormon Channel has a great series of programs called Questions and Answers. The 13 episodes produced to date pose a series of questions about gospel topics, and provide answers from General Conference audio clips, the Church’s Web site, and other publications from the current and previous First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

This is a great way to learn simple ways to answer gospel questions from your family, friends, and neighbors. Another great source for answers to gospel questions can be found at Gospel Topics (GospelTopics.lds.org) on the Church’s Web site.

History of Hymns is an interesting program on the Mormon Channel (radio.lds.org) that investigates the inception and the evolution of the hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The episodes talk about the history and the progression of the music and the text. So far, they have produced espisodes about 20 of the most popular hymns, with interesting stories about the creators and others involved in the evolution of the hymns from the beginning to today.

A few weeks so, I highlighted Conversations, a series of one-hour radio programs on the Mormon Channel (radio.lds.org) featuring people of interest to the LDS community—general authorities, auxiliary leaders, and faithful Latter-day Saints. Many of you have listened to these episodes and commented about how much you like them. Therefore, today, I thought I’d highlight another section of the Mormon Channel.

Stories from General Conference contains some of the best anecdotes shared during general conference addresses over the past several years, each tied to a specific topic or theme. Experience again the many stories from past talks that have impacted your life. Some of the 32 topics include forgiveness, attitude, repentance, fatherhood, service, and worthiness.

Here are a few interesting facts about the Mormon Channel:

• 1.2 million unique listeners have visited the site since it launched in May 2009

Visit the Church History Library Web site (ChurchHistoryLibrary.org) to find information about the newly-completed Church History Library. You can learn about the services the Church History library provides, as well as find information about the building, the open house, and it’s dedication.  This magnificent building took several years to plan and build.  The Church built this Web site because so many people have expressed interest in the building and what’s in it.

The site has a link to the Mormon Message video “O Remember, Remember” taken from a talk by Henry B. Eyring.  (This video has been watched nearly a quarter of a million times!) Elder Eyring’s message is to remember the things that God has done for you. This is the purpose of the Church History Department–to help people remember the hand of God in their lives. The Church History Department collects lots of records about the Church and its members worldwide. Many of these records are available for people to view in the new library.

While you’re on the site, watch a video clip about the unique carpet that was designed for the library. It’s design is similar to the marbled paper found in 19th century books.

On the site, you can learn how to preserve your personal history. The site also has several slide shows showing the progression of construction photos of the building, as well as displays from the open house.

Conversations is a one-hour radio program featuring people of interest to the LDS community—General Authorities, Auxiliary leaders, and faithful Latter-day Saints.  Some are joined by their spouses, who contribute an additional dimension.  Each has an interesting story and a unique perspective.  These discussions are done in a style which allows the listener to become acquainted with those being interviewed in an informal way.  This is particularly interesting with the featured general authorities, who are known to most only in formal settings. 

Conversations offers advice, wisdom and interesting stories that will lift your spirit and inspire your thoughts. The purpose of the program is to teach the gospel, strengthen individual testimonies, and encourage increased spiritual strength.

The Mormon Channel is planning more episodes of Conversations and is open to suggestions of guest ideas. Submit your ideas to radio@ldschurch.org. They are looking for members who have a compelling, true, and inspiring life story to tell.

Think the new FamilySearch is all about searching through complicated census records, death indexes, or birth certificates? It’s not an original research tool, like the original FamilySearch Web site (FamilySearch.org). What you’ll find at new.FamilySearch.org is a site where you can build your personal family tree and prepare names for temple ordinances.

The new FamilySearch is the new version of Temple Ready. It lets you locate or add names of family members who need temple work done, then process and print a family ordinance request right on your home computer.

The names found on new FamilySearch are those that have already been submitted to the Church–correctly or incorrectly–in some form or another. The 1.3 billion records come from temple ordinance records (like the International Genealogical Index), Church computerized databases (like Ancestral File and Pedigree Resource File), Church extraction programs, Church membership records, and information entered directly into the system by users.

What you can now do is verify and correct the information, link your ancestors into a massive family tree of all mankind, and get their temple work done. What makes it cool is that you’re no longer working alone–this is a collaborative effort with every other member of the Church. You can see what the entire church community has done and tie your line into everyone else’s.

Therefore, use the new FamilySearch to build your family tree and clear names for temple work. Continue to use the original FamilySearch for original research.  

This new site is now accessible to all LDS Church members, except 5 temple districts in Asia. You’ll need your membership number and confirmation date to create an account. Before long, a new feature called Family Tree will allow the general public to build, share, manage, collaborate, and preserve their family histories online.
