About David Nielson
David Nielson is the Managing Director of the Audiovisual Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Audiovisual Department exists to assist Heavenly Father’s children to “…see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and … be converted” (Acts 28:27). The Audiovisual Department produces audio, video, film, broadcasts, podcasts, DVDs, e-learning, interactive kiosks, and Web-based audiovisual media for the Church. The focus of the department is on effectively using audiovisual media for messaging, storytelling, and instruction.
David has been employed by the Church for eight years. He received his Ph.D. in Instructional Psychology and Technology from BYU in 2003. His studies focused on how to use various media methods, formats, and channels to communicate messages effectively. He believes passionately that message always comes first, technology second. Before coming to work at Church headquarters, David served as the Assistant Director of BYU Independent Study and the Assistant Director of the BYU Center for Instructional Design. In both positions, he was responsible for the design and development of BYU’s online courses. After coming to work for the Church, David was involved in the earliest designs of LDS.org and Mormon.org.
David lives in Eagle Mountain, Utah with his lovely wife, Amy, and their five children. He “enjoys” a two-hour commute via carpool each day, but uses this travel time as an opportunity to post on this blog (when it isn’t his turn to drive, of course).
The content of David’s posts is solely his responsibility and does not necessarily represent the official views of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
