LDS Gospel Library Mobile Applications

by Larry Richman on June 26, 2010

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released additional mobile applications for the Mormon Channel and Gospel Library.

The Gospel Library application allows you to download and study materials published by the Church on your mobile device. It allows you to search, bookmark, annotate, link, and highlight content from the scriptures, general conference talks, lesson manuals, and other curriculum.

The Mormon Channel application allows you to listen to radio.lds.org on your mobile device. (See previous posts about the great programs on the Mormon Channel.)

These applications are now available for a variety of mobile devices:

I thought this was the “killer app” for LDS mobile apps but it looks like there is no way to simply read scriptures, magazines or other content.

Its awesome for listening to content, but sometimes (in church, for example) I just want the text.

If they would add the option to read the text instead of listening only, and I think this would be a “must have” for people looking for LDS mobile apps.

Robert,
The Mormon Channel application is just audio version to listen to the Church radio station (radio.lds.org). The other application, the Gospel Library, provides the text to read. See the links above for the Gospel Library.

are there any apps for thoses who do not have i phone, android, blackberry, or ipad?

Michael B. January 26, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Really? They have the Gospel Library app for webOS but not Blackberry? Out of 14 million church members I can bet at least 25% of them own and use a Blackberry, whether for work or personal use. Why isn’t there a Blackberry app? I just got a Blackberry because my Android phone quit on me and I would love to be able to use the app I’ve been using for a while.

Larry Richman May 9, 2011 at 7:48 pm

Janine, What is the operating system on your Nokia?

Larry Richman May 9, 2011 at 9:25 pm

Janine, sorry, but the Church doesn’t yet offer a scriptures app for the Symbian operating system.

Jenny July 6, 2011 at 8:35 pm

Larry Richman July 7, 2011 at 1:36 pm

Jenny, the Gospel Library is available for Windows Mobile 7. See instructions for downloading at http://lds.org/pages/mobile-apps/mobile-windows?lang=eng

The Gospel Library for Blackberry offered thru http://mobile.lds.org doesn’t work. I’ve tried installing it on a Torch and a Bold, using both BB Desktop Manager and the direct link on the BB browser. The app installs but all I get is Manage Library, Settings, and About. The Scriptures never appear. Clicking on Manage Library sends it into a endless “retrieving content” mode. I’ve removed and reinstalled the app multiple times on both BBs, it never works.

please help me

Larry Richman November 27, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Valorie, you can find a list of the apps for the iPad at http://lds.org/pages/mobileapps/apple?lang=eng. Then, on your iPad, go to the App Store and search for the names of those applications.

My daughter purchased a app from LDS.Scriptures.com for $15 plus tax. For the church hymns, this app not only shows the text, but it also can show the music page with notes, or play the music of the hymns for you. This app also lets you highlight your scriptures within the app. Can the Church’s free app do any of this, and if so, is there a tutorial to show me how it is done?

Larry Richman December 14, 2011 at 1:52 pm

Paul, the Church’s LDS Music mobile app lets you browse and search Hymns and the Children’s Songbook, read the words and sheet music, and listen to accompaniments. See more info and learn about future upgrades at http://ldsmediatalk.com/2011/10/22/lds-music-mobile-app/

Some of this functionality is also built into the LDS Gospel Library App for iOS. See http://ldsmediatalk.com/2011/12/12/updates-to-the-lds-gospel-library-app-for-ios/
