Regarding the Church owning shares in Coca Cola and the like, another source for information is FAIR... and specifically for this question the following link is helpful: http://en.fairmormon.org/Hypocrisy_in_Church_Practices.

This is such a great topic. These tips apply to any topic - religion, politics, entertainment, or whatever. Every email user should be required to learn how to check the facts. If only for their own benefit regardless of whether they will forward something on.

How many times are we going to get the email about the scuba diver found dead in the middle of a California wildfire? And honestly, I'd give up my food storage just to never get another email quoting President Benson that food storage will be as important to the Saints as the arc was for Noah.

My advice is to always check out the validity of a story before passing it along. But how can you do so without spending hours of research?

How about - just don't pass things on. That saves lots of time. The only things I have to research are those things that seem important enough for me to research and refute to the person who passed them on to me.

Tony,
I'm sure you've heard the stories about how much money the church has. Who cares about exact figures, but you can be sure that whatever money the church has is not sitting around in bank accounts. I'll bet they've invested in a wide range of companies - any company that is not involved in human vice is probably a potential place of investment - that would include CocaCola (caffine notwithstanding).

Thanks so much for these links. While the legends are sometimes fun, they're almost never true. I hate to receive or pass on rumors, and I'm glad to have a way to check them out.

So, what's true then and what are the gross exagerations? Is the Church a shareholder in Coke Cola? What other shares does the church have?
