Mormon Temple Video #11 on YouTube

by Larry Richman on March 13, 2009

The “Why Mormons Build Temples” video was the #11 most viewed video on YouTube at one point today.  This screenshot proves it.

Here’s what you can do to help keep it popular:

1. Watch the video (this increases the views on YouTube and raises its popularity rankings, making good LDS content more visible than negative LDS content).

2. After viewing the video, rate it 1-5 stars.

3. Add a comment.

4. Find ways to share it with friends by e-mail or by embedding it on your Facebook page or personal blog.

Cracking the top ten most-viewed videos on YouTube was our goal and it was achieved within a 48-hour period following the direction of Church leadership to get this message out to the world quickly. The members of the Church really rallied on this effort. I have heard a few people criticize the Church for using YouTube to distribute its messages. While I understand their concerns, we were able to see the power of the Saints viewing and rating a video on YouTube which moves that video up in popularity to the point that MANY of those not of our faith choose to view it. Yesterday, as the temple video kept climbing in popularity, the comments coming in clearly shifted from a near 100% member to a 50% member and 50% non-member mix. People will watch popular videos…even if they contain religious content. Some of these comments have been from anti-Mormons but there are also some from those who are honest in heart. Overall, I believe this experiment is being viewed as a great success in getting our message out quickly and at almost no cost to the Church.

Other good news: lots of Temple coverage in tomorrow’s Big Love.

Congratulations on such a successful experiment. It’s been great to see such a coordinated effort of the Church’s online resources.

Forgot to mention…there will always be critics, but I’m glad that this was the approach used. If we keep to ourselves by using our own platforms, our own technology, etc., then how are we sharing such a beautiful message with the world?

Bravo.

I was taught if you want to know what a church believes, ask those who are active members of that church. Thanks for bringing to information to so many people.

This video brought peace to my soul.

We congratulate you for this video, and for posting it on YouTube. The message, even in its brevity, was clear and very informative, and we hope it will cause those who are honest in heart to seek to know more.
