Having said that, you need to be careful with personal information (such as names, phone numbers, birthdays, addresses, and e-mail addresses). Some stakes or wards may have had problems when people collect too much information in one place and through carelessness, let it get misused (for example, for political or commercial purposes). I wanted to know what the church's official policy was on the use of collecting member's email addresses and sending emails to a group of ward members. This came up in my current ward a few weeks ago when I asked if it was possible for someone to create an email reminder list for Enrichment. (Since I'm in Young Women's, I have a hard time remembering when Enrichment is.) One of the board members told me that the church had come out with a policy stating that you couldn't distribute emails to ward members because some people had abused this privilege in the past. I'm curious about what the policy is, how long it has been in place, and why. I just wondered because it seems I'm getting mixed messages from the various wards I've been in. In my last ward, they sent out regular email announcements and they even include people's email addresses on the Visiting Teaching slips I received.
