General Conference Materials Online

by Larry Richman on October 3, 2006

We are pleased to announce that audio files (MP3 format) are now online in English, Spanish, and Portuguese for all sessions (except priesthood session) from last weekend’s general conference. These files are segmented by speaker and are of higher quality than we have provided in the past. Video files are also available by session for English and Spanish.

Audio and video files are also available in many other languages by session. To see when other conference materials will be available, see http://www.lds.org/broadcast/gc/schedule/0,17268,7057-1,00.html. As additional elements are added online, we will note them on the general conference page (http://www.lds.org/conference/oct2006/archive/0,20232,7058-1,00.html).

We would appreciate your feedback.

Is it me or are the files up more quickly this time?

Thank you very much … look forward to listening to GC again while I commute.

I second that.. very quick, thanks! I was getting antsy to watch Elder Holland’s awesome testimony about the brethren again. :)

Has there ever been any discussion as to putting these videos on Google Video or YouTube? I’d much prefer a flash-based player over having to use Flip4Mac on my mac…

Keep up the great work!

And thanks for tagging the mp3 files. Album art would be nice too.

I don’t really like Connor’s idea of putting them on YouTube or Google. That would make them feel cheap. His suggestion to flash (or mp4) encode video is worthy of consideration.

Hugh, I agree with you about the status conveyed to the videos by posting them on these sites.

Perhaps the church could license or develop their own flash-based video streaming system to display the videos rather than using a proprietary codec that only works on Windows (and on macs with Flip4Mac which isn’t all that great).

My 2¢.

Awesome, thanks!

How about for my ipod? Can you put the video up in video podcast format so we can watch it on our ipods? The asf video format isn’t compatible.

Yes, the files are up much more quickly this conference–and we hope to beat that record next conference. We would have had all 12 languages up by tomorrow, but we started receiving English text and are giving that priority.

We are working on getting the files into the iTunes store. Still discussing YouTube, Google Videos, etc.

See my new post for the current standards for all new audio and video we create.

I agree with Connor — Flash video is the new industry standard for video. In addition, posting videos on YouTube and Google Video will bring them to far more viewers and give something positive to people who search for videos about the Church.

Why aren’t audio files available for the priesthood session?

Looks like somebody didn’t close his / tag.. :-P

Connor Boyack October 5, 2006 at 9:55 am

Okay, I’m an idiot.. I just typed in the “i” and “em” html tags not thinking that they’d be parsed.. so now there are three open italics tags that need to be closed… Sorry Larry. :)

There’s an audio podcast feed available over at KSL.

Since the priesthood session is a closed meeting, the Church does not provide the audio and video of the meeting to the general public on LDS.org. You can view priesthood sessions on the DVDs and CDs that are available at Church distribution centers.
