Church Videos Online

by Larry Richman on September 18, 2006

We received the following feedback at LDS.org:

“The site is an excellent resource.  However,  as a Sunday School Teacher it would be invaluable to be able to have all the available church videos/seminary videos etc in download format. I teach the youth using powerpoint presentations – so to be able to insert a movie into the lesson presentation would be absolutely fantastic. If possible please could you email me back to let me know what your future plans are in this area for development.”

I responded with the following message:

“Yes, we do plan to provide many Church videos in download format. We are now reviewing all the possible videos and getting the right permissions to provide them in digital form on the Internet. You can see the first one at http://videos.lds.org. We’ll add more to this page over the next few weeks and months.”

This is exciting! I wonder if it would be good to use the Adobe Flash format, which, by Adobe’s pronouncement, is the most universally used video format on the web? They say 97.3% of all computers have Flash, whereas 84% have Windows media. Just a thought…

Roger-

You actually have a good point. As I read your comment I agree. Windows media is better than nothing, but to reach out to more people using flash format would be ideal.

I was so excited to see that you finally had downloadable videos (right now I have to digitize all of the clips I use for teaching sunday school). THEN I noticed that (as usual) they are only available in Windows Media format *bubble bursts*. I guess I’ll keep digitizing.
